Reuters Spotlights Thomas Dambo While Visiting Camano Island

The excitement surrounding the future Stanwood-Camano troll continues to grow.

This week, Reuters published a feature on internationally acclaimed Danish artist Thomas Dambo, whose larger-than-life trolls, built entirely from reclaimed and recycled materials, have become beloved attractions around the world. In the article, Dambo reflects on his journey from building art out of discarded materials to creating nearly 200 trolls across 18 countries, all with a mission of inspiring people to reconnect with nature, creativity, and community.

What makes this story especially meaningful for our community is that Reuters interviewed Thomas while he was on Camano Island, scouting potential locations for the future Stanwood-Camano troll.

Dambo's work has transformed parks, forests, and public spaces into destinations that draw visitors from near and far. His trolls are more than sculptures. Each one tells a story, celebrates sustainability, and encourages people to get outside and experience the natural world. As Dambo explained to Reuters, he wants people to experience community, slow down, and see that materials often considered waste can become something beautiful.

The Stanwood-Camano community is honored to be joining the growing family of Thomas Dambo troll locations. While the exact site is still being finalized, the vision is already bringing together residents, businesses, organizations, and visitors around a shared goal: creating a landmark that reflects the creativity, natural beauty, and welcoming spirit of our region.

We look forward to sharing more updates as the project progresses and to welcoming a troll that will inspire wonder, exploration, and connection for generations to come.
